Housing for the ‘lower middle class’ in Atlanta by Miriam Pia

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

The Greater Atlanta housing market is naturally unique.  The current market is designed to attract middle middle class and more upscale people to the area.

However, even though ‘the rest of us’ or ‘the rest of you’ may not feel all that catered to by this, there is good news.  One quarter of the city’s housing is designed for lower income people.  As we have seen so far, the options range from manufactured homes through apartments, and houses, even fully detached houses with fine lawns.

It is important to not ‘give up hope’ if you feel like a ‘small fish’ when searching for a home.  You can still find a good neighborhood and a nice place.  You can ask your Realtor to help you to shop by price.

As previously mentioned; this blog is for all levels of consumers.

Pre-purchasing? by Miriam Pia

Monday, October 2nd, 2006

What is pre-purchasing?  It is an increasingly used way of ‘calling dibs’ on a home that is either under construction or that has not even been built yet.

Today’s sample is another builder who is allowing this in the Greater Atlanta market.  Centex homes is developing a neighborhood called Danbury Parc in Dunwoody.  Dunwoody is a NE suburb of the fair city of Atlanta that is in Dekalb county.

In case you were wondering, these places are desireable.  Some folks have been buying these spots ‘on spec’ which in this case means that buyers may have been investors.

In case you wondered whether or not the builders care; they do.  In this case, they have actively made proof of interest as a dweller a requirement for buying one of these homes.  Clearly, they want you to live there long enough to befriend your neighbors and to really be part of the place.
