Inexpensive in East Atlanta by Miriam Pia

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

Within East Atlanta there is a development known as Kirkwood.  They are called flats, after the English term, but quite frankly, they look it.  That is, the building fronts are straight up and down.  The most projection you find is a window shutter or a small awning above the front door.

For under $600/month, there are one bedrooms within the city.  The neighborhood is ‘family enough’.  Also, the location is village-within-the-city so you can choose your lifestyle.  There is available parking and yet there is also the public transit system affectionatley known as MARTA nearby, making this a flexible location.

These are well sized one bedrooms in that they have living room, dining room and kitchen.  For single people, or couples without children these are spacious enough, unless you like to have a lot of room to yourself.

New Homes for the Elders by Miriam Pia

Tuesday, May 2nd, 2006
If you are retired yourself, retiring soon, or the adult children of retired parents then you may face a new issue.  How can you get plenty of company and activities during your retirement years?  You may want to streamline your life.  Perhaps you had a large house designed for children.  In extreme cases, you may have even recently lost a spouse, in addition to having adult children who migrated away from you.

New Homes is one example of a self-contained community that is oriented towards the retired lifestyle and age group.  This is not an ‘old folks home’; this is an alternative method of living independently during a time of your life when many of your peers are also freed up on time by not having to go to work and most of you who have children have children themselves or are otherwise still preoccupied with activities seemingly defined by the age difference.

One bedroom apartments and neighborhood community centers give a chance to get folks outside and amongst others, an obvious step to a happy new lifestyle.

Atlanta offers more than one of these kinds of community-condominium buildings.  Many of them are also associated with a religion which can also help.

By Design: Atlanta’s Homebuilder’s Association by Miriam Pia

Monday, May 1st, 2006
Atlanta has a Homebuilder’s Association as many cities do.  One of the lovely qualities about Atlanta’s is that they give out awards.  They host an annual Design Awards contest.

Naturally you can use this when you seek a realtor or a home.  There are luxurious homes within Atlanta who can proudly claim this status: Winner of a Home Association Design competition.

If you are shopping for a more modest home, you may still get a good indication of quality by using a winning builder.

The winners had high ceilings, loads of glass.  There was a solarium, and angled staircases with open exposure.  Of course, all winners were thoroughly decorated at their time of victory.  Clearly, you can address this issue from the level of architectural design itself, but there is no arguing that proper execution of the building is…well, mandatory, would be an understatement.

Tomorrow we’ll alter our perspective once again, and see more of Atlanta’s real estate market.
